Each tab shows its own renderer memory next to its title, so you can identify which tab is heavy. A few things to check:

  • Vodou already frees memory from background tabs automatically after 15 minutes idle — see Idle tab memory (background tab freezing) — so this isn't something to configure, only to understand.
  • Tabs playing audio, downloading, or otherwise active are deliberately exempt from being frozen, so a forgotten music tab can hold memory indefinitely — check for one.
  • Pinned tabs are exempt too, by design.

Chromium (the engine behind every tab) is inherently memory-hungry — this is true of any Qt WebEngine or Chrome-based browser, not specific to Vodou. Idle tab memory management reduces this but can't eliminate it for tabs you're actively using.
