Symptoms

Running python main.py exits immediately, prints an error in the terminal, or nothing appears to happen.

Likely causes

  • A missing or incompatible dependency (PyQt6 / PyQt6-WebEngine didn't install correctly).
  • An old Python version — Vodou needs Python 3.10 or newer.
  • On Linux with Wayland, a Qt platform-plugin issue.

Solutions

  1. Confirm your Python version: python --version should be 3.10+.
  2. Reinstall dependencies: pip install -r requirements.txt.
  3. On Wayland, try QT_QPA_PLATFORM=xcb python main.py.
  4. Behind a TLS-intercepting antivirus (Norton and similar), if pip install itself fails with CERTIFICATE_VERIFY_FAILED, run python -m pip install pip-system-certs once and try again.

If that doesn't work

Run Vodou from a terminal (not a shortcut) so you can see the full error output — the exact Python traceback is the most useful thing you can share when reporting this.
