The basics
- New tab: the + button at the end of the tab bar, or Ctrl+T.
- Close tab: the tab's close button, or Ctrl+W.
- Reopen the last closed tab: Ctrl+Shift+T.
- Switch to the next tab: Ctrl+Tab.
- Drag a tab left or right to reorder it.
Closing your last tab
Closing your only remaining tab doesn't quit Vodou — the window stays open, showing a plain background with a muted version of the Vodou mark in place of a page. The address bar, toolbar buttons, and bookmarks all still work from here: type an address and press Enter, or click Home or a bookmark, and it opens as a new tab.
Renderer memory
Each tab shows its renderer's memory usage next to its title (e.g. "GitHub · 142 MB"), refreshed every few seconds. Tabs on the same site often share one renderer process, so they can show the same figure.
Idle tabs
A background tab left idle for more than 15 minutes is automatically frozen (its scripts and timers pause, but the page stays loaded, so switching back resumes instantly with nothing lost). Tabs playing audio, downloading something, or otherwise busy are left alone, and pinned tabs are never touched. See Idle tab memory (background tab freezing) for the details.
Dragging pages in and out
Drag a link, or a file from your file manager, onto the tab strip to open it in a new tab. Drag a Vodou tab out of the window onto another browser's tab strip (or the desktop) and that page opens there too — only the page's address goes with it, not cookies or your login.
