Standalone executable

The Windows .exe distributed on GitHub Releases is built with PyInstaller from Vodou.spec, which packages main.py along with trackers.txt.

Docker

There are three separate Docker setups in this repository, for different purposes:

  • docker/Dockerfile.vnc builds the official published image, msteier/vodou — Vodou plus its own virtual display (Xvfb + the evilwm window manager + x11vnc + noVNC), viewable in any browser with no host X server. This is what Installing Vodou's Docker option runs.
  • The root Dockerfile runs Vodou against an X11 display you provide instead — useful on a Linux host that already has its own X server and would rather skip VNC.
  • The docker/ Compose bundle (docker-compose.yml) is for the optional backend services Vodou itself talks to over HTTP — a local SearXNG instance, and Ollama behind the --profile ai flag — not for running Vodou itself.

Linux packaging

packaging/install-linux.sh adds a launcher and icon under ~/.local/share (no root or package manager needed) that points at the existing checkout — which is also what the in-app updater expects, since it updates Vodou with git pull. The installed vodou.desktop declares MimeType= entries for HTTP(S) and forwards a launched-with-a-link URL through to main.py, which is what Setting Vodou as your default browser relies on.
