Vodou is a single Python application built with PyQt6 on top of Qt
WebEngine (a Chromium-based rendering engine bundled by the PyQt6-WebEngine
package). There's no separate backend server or web framework involved in the browser itself —
main.py is the entry point and hosts most of the window/tab/menu logic (it's a large
file by design: the browser's core interaction logic lives in one place rather than being
scattered).
Feature modules
Most individual features live in their own top-level module, imported by main.py:
privacy.py (tracker blocking, request interception), vault.py /
vault_ui.py (password manager) with password_strength.py (local
strength/reuse analysis, no network), cookies.py / cookies_ui.py
(cookie exceptions), bookmarks.py / bookmarks_ui.py,
downloads_ui.py, safebrowsing.py, spoofcheck.py
(deceptive-site detection and download-name sanitization), location_profile.py
(region/geolocation emulation), content_credentials.py (C2PA),
plugins.py / plugins_ui.py, ai_search.py (local AI /
Ollama client), authenticator.py (FIDO2), dpapi.py (Windows credential
sealing), setting_protection.py, splitview.py, theme.py,
and about.py (version info and the self-updater).
default_browser.py handles OS registration for
Setting Vodou as your default browser (Windows registry / xdg-settings).
Where configuration lives
User data and configuration live under ~/.vodou/ — a plain-JSON file per concern
(theme.json, graphics.json, bookmarks.json,
ai_search.json, and so on) rather than one monolithic settings blob, plus the
encrypted vault.dat and a size-capped, securely-shredded profile/
disk-cache directory.
